continued.....But what about all those tools? Will you ever use them?

I personally use almost every tool but I have a lot of varied interests, mountain biking, computer repair, electrical work etc.. The pliers I use for computer repair and electric work, the knife blades are very sharp straight from the factory and I probably use the knives more than any other tool, from spreading butter to stripping cable.

The screwdriver bits are excellent, and end up fixing my son’s toys more than anything else.

The saw I use for small bits of wood for my wood-burning stove in the workshop, and pruning my small fruit trees,it’s perfect and very sharp!

The bottle opener probably gets more use than it should ;-)

The wire strippers and cutter are used daily in my electrical work and perform great.

The scissors are probably the only tool that I don’t use so much, although they are very good my wife has quality scissors around the house for her dress making so I usually borrow hers.

To be honest, I carry mine almost all the time I find it so useful, and I have a leatherman charge TTI which was a fantastic present that lives in the car mostly, just in case.

To sum up; it’s a well made quality tools, great locking action, very sharp quality knives, light and not too big, and with an excellent assortment of tools. But for me the ultimate deciding factor was the 25 year guarantee. How many things come with a 25 year guarantee?, especially something with a lot of moving parts that will get years of use and abuse. I have driven over mine and dropped it into a wheelbarrow of concrete and it's still perfect.

If you are really into your DIY, mechanics, or engineering you might prefer the Charge TTI ,or a plumber would benefit from the mole grip action of the Crunch.

If weight or size is an issue you might be better off with a Skeletool CX or Juice, or for the key ring, or a really small purse ,the Squirt or Micra might be better, especially if you don’t have that ‘fixing’ lifestyle and just want something for emergencies.

You have loads of choice when it comes to multi tools now, 20 years ago there was almost none, now it can be very time consuming and a bit daunting to find the ‘perfect’ tool.

There are other companies who make multitools, the Gerber range is good and also Victorinox ‘Swiss army’ ,Wenger and DMT, but for my money Leatherman have the edge on quality and have dominated this market, and millions of satisfied customers will continue to buy only leatherman.(including me)

What about the negative side?

The price is quite high, I have found the wave on sale for as high as £126.00 but shopping around you can get one for about £75.00.

The stainless steel body will get rusty,it's stainless not stain proof.

The nylon pouch is a bit cheap looking.

The bit accessories are expensive.

For me the only question is should I buy the black one.....
